Our Early Oliver History

One year, almost to the day, had passed, since Betty and I laid eyes on the first Oliver Legacy Elite that we had ever seen. That had been at the first River Valley Egg Rally, in Van Buren Arkansas. On this particular day, we were at the River Valley Egg Rally number two, with other new Oliver owner’s. Our campground was located just off of interstate 40, with lots of great Casita folks, and other molded fiberglass owners, as well as fellow new Oliver owner’s.

Axle Count

Just how many do you want to deal with? Over the years, as we came out of the work a day world and into retirement, our RVing style changed to suit our needs. And, usually, it simply came down to just how much “stuff” we wanted to carry with us. Now “stuff” readily translates into […]

Ten Oliver Years Ago

Ten years have went by ever so fast! And, it seems just like yesterday. It was well after dark as we had left the Oliver Plant in Hohenwald. The factory crew had stayed over late to finish up a few things and we hit the road.

Shopping Bags

Shopping bags galore! A quick way to store, use and dispose of those pesky plastic shopping bags by putting them in the trash right away. Out of sight, out of mind. Yet, they will be readily at hand come bag replacement time!

Washers

There are washers, and then there are washers, and you don’t have to own an travel trailer for very long before you figure out just which ones work for you. And, you will always keep a few spares around for emergency’s.

Freezeproof Camping

The long range weather forecast was absolutely horrific! However we had a couple of days off to get ready. The first order of business was a freeze proof water hose.

Safety Detectors

It has been our tradition that just after the holidays, usually the first week in January, that we put new batteries in our travel trailer detectors and test them.

Winter Camping

Propane is a very important part of our Winter camping experience, so we make sure that we are carrying enough along with us for the trips’ duration. Now, you might say, “just how do you measure that?” Actually, it isn’t all that complicated. It is all about weight and being able to quickly and easily measure it. If you fly commercially and weigh your luggage, you may already have everything that you need to measure your propane. A cool thing is that each propane tank has the empty and the full weight permanently stamped on it. Here is a look.

Water Adapter Bandit

You have been camped for a week in your travel trailer up near the Continental Divide National Scenic hiking trail and it has been great. Taking early morning hikes, getting back into camp just before the late afternoon Monsoon rain, a quick shower, a nap and fantastic campfire camaraderie in the evenings. Only one thing could make it any better. Another week of the same!

Mudroom

Awning out and anchored down, screen room kit attached with a tarp and rug on the ground. We were at the sugar beet harvest in this photo.

Got Tarps – Part 3

Oftentimes a campsite can be subject to high or gusting winds making the whole camping thing less fun. Now, Mother Nature always seems to rule, but, moderating that wind a little can make the difference between holing up inside the trailer or sitting around the campfire enjoying the outdoors.

Got Tarps – Part 2

Putting a tarp on the ground under your travel trailer’s awning is a whole lot like adding a floor to a spare room. And if you add a screen room kit to the awning for walls you do indeed have a spare room.
